I still need to do a Monkey’s birthday and Christmas post, but had to pop on quickly to note that the Marshmallow started cruising today. At a little over 8 months old. OMG. He will be walking before you know it. Where did my little baby go?

As regular readers of my blog, you all know that Monkey has been standing unassisted and taking a few steps here and there on his own for the last month or so. However, his primary mode of transportation remained cruising or crawling. Well, that has all changed! Last Thursday, DW was working with him on his walking and called me into the room. She was standing him up on the opposite side of the room from her and he was taking 6-10 steps all the way into her arms! Exciting! He did it over and over again until bedtime and the next day, he was a total walker. Now he toddles all over the place, hands held at about eye level, and he rarely crawls or cruises. It is so cute! If you don’t believe me, check out the vids in my next post! Those without a password, email me (gloomcookie5 at yahoo dot com).

Monkey has also taken to wearing shoes lately. We took him to the children’s shoe store in the mall and they measured him at a 6. We picked up a pair of velcro Converse and it has been going great getting them on his chunky feet. Walking in them is no problem either, though if he had his way, I think he’d prefer to be barefoot. Little Monkey!

11 months

Today my sweet baby is 11 months old. The last month has been mostly about baby’s love of food. I guess baby food just wasn’t cutting it for S as he has really taken to table food like crazy. So far he hasn’t turned anything away – broccoli, pasta, chicken, turkey, mashed potato, bits of pizza. You name it, S likes it. We can’t wait to watch him eat his first Thanksgiving dinner – he will LOVE it all!

S has started “finger walking” (walking with assistance) recently, which is new for him. Today he got between the coffee table and the couch and walked holding on to each item. It won’t be long now! We also let him have fairly free range of the house. We are keeping him out of the kitchen for now – it has slate flooring and lots of things that could mean trouble, so it’s off limits. We’ll see how long that lasts 🙂 [SIDE NOTE: Speaking of tooling around the house, does anyone have any child proofing items they are loving?] He is loving crawling all over and making tons of noise slamming toys down on the wood floors. He loves anything with wheels, including his stroller, which he rolls around the room. Another game he likes is chasing his inflatable Gymboree ball around the house.

He is still loving reading (latest faves include The Monster at the End of this Book and Ten Apples Up On Top). We put together an Amazon wish list for his birthday (coming right up!) and it was so fun going through the toys and picking those we think he’ll love. His big birthday gift from us is going to be a ball crawl. There is one he uses at a local indoor playground and he loves it. He will be so excited!

Life with S is the best, and I say that even with his rough nights and early wake ups. Your mamas love you so much, S-Pants!

10 months

Today S is 10 months old! The last month has been both super fun and crazy difficult. He is a very happy baby who laughs all the time. He loves to jump in his crib, on the bed, in the Pack N Play, on the couch, you get the picture. We’ve given him more solids to try including pasta, steamed carrots and broccoli, and various cut up fruit. He enjoys playing at Gymboree during their free play times. The child loves to talk. He babbles constantly – I think he gets that from his Mama (me). He loves to roughhouse with Mommy.

The difficult? Sleep. We have transitioned to being a co-sleeping family as it is really the only way to get any amount of decent sleep with baby. We put him down for the night in his crib and when he wakes after we get into bed, he comes in with us. The night starts off with us staring at our beautiful little guy all tucked in between us sleeping. Wonderful. Somewhere around 12-1AM, he starts in with crazy tossing and turning and that generally lasts off and on for a couple of hours with some nursing going on in between as well. He is up for the day usually between 4-4:30AM. We are trying to push his schedule out so that he goes down for the night at 7PM, but we are currently stuck at 6-6:30PM. Our mantra? This, too, shall pass.
We love our little guy more than I could imagine and are so excited to watch him grow.

9 months!

Today my sweet baby boy is 9 months old. I say this every month, but damn, I can’t believe he’s so big already! He definitely seems more “little boy” than “baby boy” these days. Not a lot of new stuff in the last month, except that he now enjoys playing in the sandbox at the park (but will gladly eat a hand full it if you aren’t watching closely). Rather than gaining new skills, he is mastering those that he started last month. He is crawling like crazy, pulling himself to a stand constantly, babbling all the time, and has a couple more teeth coming in (which will bring the grand total to 9). He has his 9 month check up on Thursday and we are excited to see what he weighs and his height. He seems like such a BIG boy! We were at the park yesterday and there was a baby who was 2 months older than S but looked about 3 months younger!

S still loves breastfeeding, and his favorite foods are yogurt, any fruit (except banana, which he’s so-so on), squash, and sweet potato. He is enjoying puffs and yogurt melts, too, and is getting really good at picking them up and getting them into his mouth. We put a swing up at his Grandma’s house and she also has a kiddie pool for him, so he loves going over there. His favorite toys include the Leapfrog musical table, Tupperware Shape-O toy (remember that one, kids?), plastic toy truck (wheels!), and soft books. Favorite books include Winnie the Pooh Bedtime ABCs, baby lift-the-flap books (the DK Publishing ones), Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See, and a finger puppet glove book thingy of Old MacDonald had a Farm.

sleep? we don’t need no stinking sleep…

Yes, baby is still fighting sleep like a champ. I definitely think it’s related to his hitting new milestones like crazy lately (sitting up unassisted, crawling, pulling up to standing, cruising, finger foods). We tried using the Sleep Lady technique again at bedtime, but baby cried for an hour and during that hour, he would sit up or stand up at the side of the crib. I tried laying him down each time (over and over and over again) and saying, “Night night.” No dice. After an hour, DW came in and put him to sleep by swaying with him and then patting his butt in the crib. He woke up 2 times before we went to bed (between 6:30PM-10PM), and again when we went to bed. I nursed him at 10PM and he went to sleep until 2AM. Nursed him at 2AM and he was up for the day at 4AM. We tried swaying, butt patting, nursing, etc. at 4AM, but when 5AM rolled around and he still was nowhere near sleepy, I got up with him (annoyed and grumpy as hell). I was ready to try Ferber tonight (CIO with checks), but DW wants to give him another chance since he went 10PM-4AM with 1 wakeup, which is pretty good for him. So I guess we’re in for another sleepless night (I don’t have the same high hopes as DW, but it can’t hurt to try one more night I guess). Argh!
